Pregnancy massage
Pregnancy massage is a specially modified treatment to suit the needs of a mum-to-be and her growing bump. My treatments are full-body massages, done on the treatment couch but in a side-lying position – alternatively, a massage chair can also be used if that’s more comfortable. Cushions and towels are used to make sure you feel relaxed, snug and supported.
The treatments concentrate on some of the most common problems that pregnant women experience, but every treatment is designed especially for you and your needs. The massages are also suitable for those who have been getting regular massages before pregnancy and want to continue their treatments when they’re expecting. A treatment can be modified further if you’re still active and play sports or exercise throughout your pregnancy, and the pressure is generally quite deep to really target all those aching muscles and joints. If you suffer from fluid retention, the treatments will include plenty of lymphatic drainage to target the swelling.
Benefits of pregnancy massage include:
- releasing tension and aches, particularly in the lower back
- reducing tightness and knots in muscles
- reducing fluid retention and swelling
- improving joint mobility
- relieving stress, tiredness, anxiety and insomnia
Note that you can only have a massage after your 12-week scan.
