Does sports massage hurt?

Sports massage is often used to treat damaged soft tissues or areas with a lot of tension, and the pressure needed is quite deep and firm. Some techniques may therefore feel uncomfortable, but many people - especially those involved in sports - often describe it as 'good pain'. If you have an injury or a chronic condition there's often no way of avoiding some degree of discomfort, however don't worry - deeper techniques are not used until your muscles have warmed up enough, and I will always try my best to explain what I'm doing and why. If you're not comfortable with the idea of deep pressure and just want to relax, Swedish massage is probably a better option for you. Whichever you choose, I will check during the treatment that you're happy with the pressure and if it's too firm or too light, it's not a problem at all to adjust that.
